Impactful Research Manager, Climate & Health Mitigation
London
The Wellcome Trust in the United Kingdom is seeking a Research Manager to join the Mitigation Team within the Climate & Health Research Programme.
Salary: £44,000 - £55,000 Closing date: Sunday, 25 October 2026 Contract type: Permanent Interview dates: 1st stage (w/c 23/11) online/Remote; 2nd stage: face to face
The Wellcome Trust is a global charitable foundation. We improve health for everyone by funding science, leading policy and advocacy campaigns, and building partnerships. We plan to spend £16bn over the next ten years, funding new discoveries in life, health, and wellbeing, and taking on three global health challenges: mental health, infectious disease and climate and health. These challenges need the bold science we support, but they won’t be solved by science alone.
You will be working in the Mitigation Team, within the Climate and Health Research Programme. The Mitigation Team supports the generation of robust, relevant health evidence in order to drive climate mitigation that benefits the health of both people and planet. We develop and fund transdisciplinary research that is co-produced by scientists, decision-makers and affected communities. We are passionate about advancing science in order to develop and enable climate and health solutions. We work in partnership with researchers, policy makers, financial and legal decision makers, fellow philanthropies and affected communities to maximise impact. This role will support a range of projects across our priority areas: sustainable and resilient food systems; the energy transition; and super pollutants. We welcome applicants with experience in relevant climate and health research, and in particular with expertise in: land-use and GHGs, and/or HIA; as well as LMIC experience.
In this role, you will contribute to our Climate & Health strategy by working with the Mitigation Team to identify, develop and manage funding for a variety of research projects. You will convene, fund, and disseminate learning through activities such as funding calls, research commissions, and evidence scoping contracts. You’ll lead various initiatives across the mitigation portfolio, including supporting a cohort of LMIC research projects, supporting land-use aspects of our food systems and energy transitions work, and/or supporting integration of HIA within mitigation and health co-benefit work.
If you bring research expertise from academia, industry, charity, or the funding sector, and thrive in mission-driven work characterised by collaboration, this role could be an excellent match. You’ll utilise your communication and organisational skills to manage projects, engage diverse stakeholders, and contribute to strategic initiatives that advance Climate & Health.
We understand that our colleagues have commitments and personal interests outside of work and we strive to build a flexible working environment, in which people can perform at their best. At Wellcome we have a hybrid way of working which is 3 days in our Euston Road offices (Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday) with the remaining 2 days working either remotely or in the office.
We are committed to cultivating a fair and inclusive environment, where everyone can be themselves and thrive. We are happy to discuss flexible working options for all roles. We work to ensure that our recruitment processes are as inclusive as possible to everyone. This includes making adjustments for people who have a disability or long-term condition. Please visit our website for more information on adjustments and accessibility, or contact us at
We support researchers, we take on big health challenges, we campaign for better science, and we help everyone get involved with science and health research. Wellcome isn't just a supporter of great ideas, it's a great place to work. We offer excellent benefits and help our employees to develop in an open, respectful culture where differences are valued.
