Natural Environment Engagement Officer
Liverpool
To help make Liverpool City region the best place to grow up, grow a family, and grow a business – where no-one is left behind
Please note that this post is offered as a two-year fixed term contract.
We are seeking an individual to help inspire, empower and enable local communities and stakeholders to engage with nature, supporting delivery of the combined authority’s biodiversity, climate and nature recovery ambitions as part of our work leading the LCR Local Nature Recovery Strategy (LNRS).
The LCR Local Nature Recovery Strategy (LNRS), adopted by the Combined Authority in March 2026, sets out where and how investment in restoring habitats and improving public access to nature should be prioritised, across 36 priority areas for nature recovery. Following publication of the LNRS, efforts are now focused on enabling delivery, including a role in coordination, monitoring and building a case for investment in nature recovery and wider environmental delivery.
To support this activity, the LCRCA plans to establish a Nature Hub that will provide guidance, resources and project development tools to help partners seek funding and deliver on-ground action. Strong community and stakeholder support exists for greater nature recovery activity, with particular support for better access to nature to enhance mental and physical wellbeing and health outcomes.
The Combined Authority is growing our ability to act as convenor and supporter of action on climate themes across the LCR. We are looking for an individual with excellent collaboration and co-operation skills, capable of building strong relationships with diverse communities and stakeholders. The role will involve developing and maintaining close working relationships with internal teams, our Liverpool City Region Local Authority partners, key external stakeholders and a wide range of local community groups. Ability to work independently, develop and deliver meaningful programmes of engagement will be critical to the success of this role.
Our related environmental work covers an exceptionally broad agenda, with diverse themes such as climate change and resilience, integrated water management, air quality and transport, health and wellbeing, carbon and environment literacy, sustainable energy, food, rural issues and agriculture forming key linkages and interdependencies with the nature recovery agenda. For this reason, flexibility to work across a broad range of environmental and associated themes is highly desirable. This is an exciting time of change, with a rapidly evolving national and local policy. This role presents an opportunity to shape the Liverpool City Region approach to nature recovery and environmental sustainability.
You will be able to work on your own initiative with a high level of responsibility and confidentiality along with a flexibility of approach to meet the needs of a rapidly changing work programme.
You will be expected to liaise with internal and external groups, forming a key link between technical ecological delivery and public engagement, ensuring that community voices meaningfully shape nature recovery initiatives. You will need to show an ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, along with excellent relationship-building skills.
The Liverpool City Region is world-famous for its history, culture and creativity. A place of firsts, it is the birthplace of modern railways, public health and international trade. Now, our economy is being transformed once again, changing the world through world-leading innovation in health and life sciences, digital and creative, and advanced manufacturing - growing an economy already worth £35 billion a year.
The Combined Authority plays a central role in catalysing this innovation-led economy. We are seizing the unique opportunity to use our devolved powers and funding to create wealth and prosperity for all our 1.6 million residents and the whole UK - investing in our economy, people, place, transport and digital infrastructure.
Our vision is for the Liverpool City Region to be: The best place to grow up, grow a family, and grow a business - where no-one is left behind.
Local Government Pension Scheme contributions between 5.5% and 12.5%
Generous holiday entitlement of 29 days rising to 34 days after 5 years service, as well as bank holidays and the option to buy 10 additional days
We offer a guaranteed interview scheme for candidates who have declared that they: have a disability, are from a Black, Asian or Minority Ethnic background, are care experienced (whether through foster care, residential care, supported living, kinship care, live-in care, home care or adoption), are a member of a reservist or have close family links to a member of the Armed Forces as we are under-represented by people from these communities.
We actively promote diversity and inclusion. Please note that this role is unlikely to meet the eligibility requirements for sponsorship under the Skilled Worker route. We recommend that you assess your eligibility before applying for this position. Please visit
