Business Development Manager

• Up to £50,000 basic, £15,000 OTE and a car
• Typical orders of £30,000 to £50,000, agreed with senior decision makers

THE CLIENT

An established supplier of a wide range of construction products and accessories, selling to building contractors and housebuilders. The industry it operates in has a reputation for being reactive. Plenty of suppliers wait for the phone to ring, quote what comes in and look after the accounts they already have.

This business is taking a different approach. It's progressive, it's actively shaking up how things are done in its market, and it wants salespeople who go out and find business rather than wait for it to arrive. In an industry where most competitors are sitting back, a proactive salesperson stands out quickly.

THE ROLE

You’ll be out in the field winning new contractor and housebuilder accounts. Once you’ve won them, you’ll plug them into account management so the business you bring in keeps growing. This is not small-ticket selling. Individual orders typically run between £30,000 and £50,000, and you’ll be dealing at a senior level with the people who make the buying decisions.

One day you might be presenting in a boardroom, the next walking a building site with the people who’ll be using what you supply. That variety is a big part of the job. If you’re currently a Field Sales Executive or Account Manager looking for bigger orders and a bigger stage, this is a genuine step up.

ABOUT YOU

You might be selling something quite different right now. What sets you apart is how you sell. You’re a hunter by nature, happiest when you’re opening doors and creating opportunities. You communicate well at every level, and you’re as comfortable in a boardroom as you are on a shop floor or a building site. You adapt your style to whoever is in front of you and build relationships that feel like they’re between equals, not supplier and customer.
