Personnel Selection are working with a growing SME in Northampton that is looking for a commercially minded, people-focused Business Development Executive to join its friendly team.

This isn't your typical sales role. Forget the pressure of a call centre, endless cold calls and chasing quick wins. This is about building genuine relationships, looking after some seriously valuable clients and making sure customers keep coming back because they trust you, value your service and know they're in good hands.

You'll inherit and develop important customer relationships, take ownership of your accounts and look for opportunities to grow existing business. And if you have a natural eye for spotting new opportunities, then you can get involved in lead generation and new business development, too.

The business is growing, the earning potential is there, and with an uncapped commission structure, your success can be reflected in your pay packet.

So, what will you actually be doing?

• Looking after existing and established accounts: Build strong, lasting relationships with key customers and make sure they receive the attention and service they deserve.
• Keeping customers coming back: Put retention first, nurture existing relationships and become someone your customers genuinely want to work with.
• Growing your accounts: Spot opportunities to introduce additional products or services, increase spend and develop long-term customer value.
• Turning opportunities into sales: Manage inbound enquiries, prepare quotations, negotiate and follow up to convert opportunities into orders.
• Making things happen: Take ownership of your pipeline, keep customer records up to date and work closely with colleagues to deliver the right solutions.
• Finding new opportunities: Where it suits your strengths, get involved in lead generation and new business development to help drive the company's continued growth.

What are we looking for?

We're looking for someone who enjoys the commercial side of sales but knows that great results start with great relationships.

You’ll ideally bring:

• Experience in B2B sales, account management, business development or a similar commercial role.
• A natural ability to build rapport, nurture relationships and earn customers' trust.
• A customer-first mindset, with a genuine interest in retention and repeat business.
• Commercial awareness and the confidence to recognise opportunities to grow accounts.
• Excellent communication, organisation and follow-up skills.
• A proactive attitude — someone who takes ownership, gets things done and enjoys seeing the results of their efforts.
