Job overview
Our Paediatric Critical Care Service comprises a 14-bedded regional unit, including a 10-bedded Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) and a 4-bedded Paediatric Step Down Unit (PSDU), providing specialist care for critically ill and high-dependency children across South West London and the surrounding areas. We care for children with a diverse range of complex conditions including trauma, respiratory failure, major surgical conditions, neurology and neurosurgery cases, oncology, and acute general paediatric illnesses requiring advanced levels of support.
We are seeking an enthusiastic, motivated and engaged Nursing Associate to join our dedicated multidisciplinary team. This is an exciting opportunity to work within a dynamic tertiary paediatric service, supporting the delivery of outstanding, family-centred care to children and young people with complex healthcare needs. You will work alongside experienced nurses and clinicians, developing your critical care skills while contributing to a culture of excellence, innovation and continuous improvement.
Main duties of the job
Support the delivery of safe, effective and compassionate care to critically ill and high-dependency children within the PICU and PSDU environments.
Work collaboratively with registered nurses and the wider multidisciplinary team to assess, plan, implement and evaluate care for children with complex and acute healthcare needs.
Monitor, record and escalaté changes in patients' conditions, ensuring timely recognition of deterioration and appropriate intervention.
Undertake delegated clinical skills and responsibilities within the Nursing Associate scope of practice, following local policies, procedures and competency frameworks.
Deliver high-quality, family-centred care that supports the physical, emotional and developmental needs of children and their families throughout their critical care journey.
Contribute to the management of children requiring specialist intensive care for trauma, respiratory, surgical, neurological, neurosurgical, oncology and general medical conditions.
