Optical Business Development Manager

Business Development Manager | Ophthalmic Lenses | North of England

Zest Optical is working in partnership with a leading global ophthalmic lens manufacturer to recruit an experienced and commercially driven Business Development Manager to cover the North of England .

This is an excellent opportunity to join an established and highly regarded business within the ophthalmic lens industry, taking responsibility for driving sales growth and developing relationships with independent optical practices across the region.

The successful candidate will ideally be based close to the M62 corridor (Leeds / Sheffield / Manchester), providing easy access to customers throughout the territory.

The role combines proactive new business development with the management and growth of existing customer accounts.Working closely with independent opticians, practice owners and optical professionals, you'll take a consultative approach to sales, helping customers develop their lens business through commercial support, product knowledge and training.

Business Development Manager - Role & Responsibilities

• Manage and develop a portfolio of independent optical accounts across the North of England.
• Identify, target and secure new business opportunities to expand the company's customer base and market presence.
• Build strong, long-term relationships with practice owners, Dispensing Opticians and key decision-makers.
• Drive sales growth through effective account management, increasing product penetration and identifying opportunities within existing accounts.
• Deliver product presentations, training and commercial support to help practices maximise their ophthalmic lens sales.
• Develop and implement territory plans to achieve agreed sales and revenue targets.
• Monitor competitor activity, market trends and customer requirements to identify opportunities for growth.
• Maintain regular customer contact through planned visits, follow-up and ongoing account development.
• Work collaboratively with internal teams to ensure customers receive a consistently high level of service and support.

Business Development Manager - Requirements

• Previous B2B sales experience within the optical industry would be highly advantageous.
• A qualified Dispensing Optician with strong commercial awareness and a desire to develop a career in field sales would also be considered.
• Strong understanding of ophthalmic lenses and the independent optical market.
• Proven ability to build relationships, influence decision-makers and identify commercial opportunities.
• Confident delivering product presentations and customer training.
• Self-motivated, organised and comfortable managing a large geographical territory independently.
• Proactive approach to new business development, with the drive and determination to achieve sales targets.
• Ideally based close to the M62 corridor.
• Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel regularly throughout the North of England.
