About this Role

Coombe Girls' School and Sixth Form

is a comprehensive girls' state secondary school, with a co-educational Sixth Form. The school is heavily oversubscribed and is committed to providing an excellent education to children in the local area. We are proud of the progress our students make from their starting points during their time with us: the school's GCSE Progress 8 score in 2024 was +0.7, and the progress of our 2025 cohort was in the top 25% of the country. The school is proud to be part of the Helix Learning Trust.

Our School Environment

Our school is vibrant and diverse, serving the local area of New Malden. We value every individual and the rich wealth of experience, knowledge, values and beliefs they bring to our school. The experience and talent you will bring to our school will ensure we continue to provide the best education for our students and further increase the breadth of opportunity for the next generation. We particularly encourage applications from colleagues in underrepresented groups and welcome conversations about flexible working opportunities.

Role Overview

The school is looking to appoint a Deputy/Aspiring SENDCo to supplement our vibrant and busy Learning Development Department, who is keen to develop in the field of SEND and who will take responsibility for coordinating our many interventions, as well as other responsibilities as directed by the SENDCo. There is a wide range of specialist staff who work at Coombe Girls' School to support young people's needs, meaning that the opportunities for someone seeking to develop their knowledge and skill base within SEND is great.

It is not essential that applicants have lots of formal SEND training as we will support the right person to develop their knowledge and skill within this area - what is essential is the willingness to embrace your own professional development and ambition to progress. We will consider teachers early in their career who are excellent classroom practitioners with a passion for SEND and who would develop into the role.

What We Offer

  • An exciting opportunity in a vibrant school
  • A guaranteed CPD plan tailored to individual requirements including financial support for 'M' Level study. Our ongoing professional training and development includes National Professional Qualifications in Leadership.
  • A supportive department and Leadership Team
  • Effective PPA allocation to allow for a better work/life balance
  • Touch screen Chromebook with G Suite education embedded throughout
  • Pension Scheme
  • Employee benefits such as Cycle Scheme, Pension Schemes and access to CSSC member benefits scheme.
  • Free onsite Parking
  • An enthusiastic Staff Association offering opportunities for staff sport and socialising
  • Excellent location with direct rail links to London Waterloo (25 mins) and a frequent bus service to Kingston upon Thames
  • Access to an Employee wellbeing programme including counselling and mentoring

Our Ideal Candidate Will:

  • Be a highly competent and experienced teacher
  • Have a genuine passion for SEND and a commitment to meeting the individual needs of all students
  • Be able to inspire and motivate students and support colleagues to deliver high-quality inclusive teaching
  • Have a strong understanding of effective teaching and learning and how this can be adapted to meet a range of SEND needs
  • Be committed to ongoing professional development and developing their SEND knowledge and leadership skills
  • Have the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, parents and external professionals
  • Have the commitment to be part of an innovative and forward-thinking school
  • Play a full and active role in the life of the school
