Fitzwilliam College invites applications for a stipendiary Research Fellowship in English, Anglo-Saxon, Norse & Celt or Classics; starting 1 October 2027 and lasting three years. The Fellowship is generously funded by the Isaac Newton Trust.
The Research Fellow will become a member of the Governing Body of the College. Research Fellows are frequently invited, but not obligated, to undertake (for an additional payment) up to four hours of small group teaching per week. The ECRF will receive a salary at spine point 26 (post PhD) (rising to point 28 and 30 for subsequent two years) (£26,449-£28,732pa as at August 2025). The stipend is pensionable. Rent-free single accommodation will be offered in College (a taxable benefit) with a charge to cover services, or an additional live out allowance will be provided (£3,958 as at August 2025) for any Research Fellow not resident in College. If living out, study facilities will be provided.
Fitzwilliam is part of a group of Colleges operating a Joint Application Scheme for Early Career Research Fellowships. A total of eight Fellowships are being offered in this cycle, at Churchill College, Clare College, Fitzwilliam College, Murray Edwards and Trinity Hall, but candidates are advised that competition is likely to be intense; last year almost 1300 applications were received.
Please see the further particulars for the College’s statements on diversity, equality of opportunity and data protection.
£26,449 to £28,732 pa as at August 2025
