Join our dedicated team as a Coroners Officer at our Grimsby office and make a difference for bereaved families across Greater Lincolnshire.

Are you someone who cares deeply about helping others, especially during difficult times? We’re looking for a compassionate, organised person to join our friendly team as a Coroners Officer, serving communities right across the Greater Lincolnshire area. In this important role, you’ll support families, work closely with professionals from all walks of life, and help ensure that every case is handled with care and respect.

What you’ll be doing

  • Supporting bereaved families with empathy and clear information, guiding them through the coronial process.
  • Working alongside doctors, police, mortuary staff, pathologists, and funeral directors to gather information and help investigate deaths referred to the Coroner.
  • Managing case files, arranging post-mortems, and preparing for inquests—making sure everything meets legislation and is managed sensitively.
  • Taking part in our out-of-hours rota, to allow agencies to be provided with the relevant support following a death in the community.
  • Helping new team members learn the ropes and sharing your knowledge.

About you

  • You’re a great communicator, able to explain things clearly and listen with empathy.
  • You’re organised, calm under pressure, and able to manage caseloads by prioritising tasks to meet deadlines.
  • You’re confident using record-management systems and able to adapt to learn new systems and processes.
  • You don’t need to be an expert in coronial law or medicine—we’ll give you all the support you need.
  • You’re resilient, caring, and committed to public service.
  • An ability to travel across the county for service needs as you’ll be working across the Greater Lincolnshire area.

Due to recent changes in immigration law in the UK we are unable to offer skilled worker visa sponsorship for this role as it does not meet the requirements.

At Lincolnshire County Council, we believe our people are at the heart of everything we do. That’s why we offer a rewarding package designed to support your work-lie balance, health and wellbeing, financial security, and career growth. Find out more about our offer to you in the attached brochure.

We have embraced new ways of working and hybrid working will be a feature of this role. You will be given a nominated contractual work base and you will be required to commute to this work base when necessary. Working arrangements regarding hybrid working will be discussed as part of the appointment process. Our technology platform and equipment is very good enabling you to connect and collaborate remotely. We require that you have in place good connectivity, and we will discuss during the recruitment process if support with this is needed.

Fluency Duty: In accordance with Part 7 of the Immigration Act 2016 (Fluency Duty), the ability to converse at ease with customers and provide advice in accurate spoken English is essential for the post.

Our values – collaborative, adaptable, eco-conscient, supportive, and responsible – guide everything we do. We’re looking for candidates who share these values and bring them to life in their work, helping us build strong teams and make a real difference in the communities we serve.
