Business Development Manager – Trade and Industrial Supplies

Amnis Recruitment is recruiting a Business Development Manager for an established supplier of trade and industrial consumables. This is an opportunity to develop new business, build a repeat-buying customer base and help shape the company’s sales approach. Working directly with senior leadership, you’ll have autonomy over your pipeline and territory, with scope to progress into sales leadership as the business grows.

The role

Your initial focus will be winning new customers across the North West and North of England, then developing those relationships into regular, repeat business.

• Research prospects, make direct approaches and arrange customer visits.
• Win new accounts with independent merchants, wholesalers, engineering businesses and trade customers.
• Build lasting relationships that generate repeat orders.
• Deliver product demonstrations and introduce samples to prospective customers.
• Attend trade events and business networking groups.
• Plan your territory, manage your diary and maintain accurate pipeline records.
• Share market intelligence on customer needs, pricing and competitors.
• Work closely with office and warehouse colleagues to support customer service.
• Help develop practical sales processes as the function grows.

What we’re looking for

• At least five years’ experience selling repeat-purchase consumables to trade customers, workshops or independent stockists.
• A demonstrable record of winning accounts from cold and growing repeat business.
• Relevant experience in tooling, fixings, fasteners, PPE, engineering supplies or a similar sector.
• Confidence approaching decision-makers and presenting products in practical working environments.
• Strong organisation, commercial awareness and the ability to manage your own territory.
• Resilience, initiative and a collaborative approach.
• A full UK driving licence and access to your own vehicle.
• A North West base that allows regular customer travel and office attendance.

Existing trade relationships, product demonstration experience and referral-networking experience would be advantageous.

The package

• £30,000–£35,000 basic salary.
• Uncapped commission rewarding new business and ongoing account development.
• Expected first-year earnings of £45,000–£50,000, dependent on performance.
• Potential earnings of £60,000+ from year two as your account base develops.
• Mileage allowance for business travel.
• Laptop and phone.
• Paid networking membership, trade-event attendance and reasonable business expenses.
• Scope to progress towards Sales Manager or Sales Director as the business grows.
