Applications are invited for a newly RCOG accredited subspecialty training programme in Maternal-Fetal Medicine. The training program is modular, and covers all aspects of the RCOG syllabus in Maternal-Fetal medicine. The successful applicant will take part in the general obstetrics and gynaecology on-call rota.
Candidates must have completed training to at least ST5 level. The programme is over 2 year’s whole time equivalent, if the trainee is research exempt at the time of registering for subspecialty training, and over three years, if the trainee has not achieved research exemption at the time of registration. Training is undertaken as a series of modules and each module covers a particular aspect of the MFM curriculum ensuring that all training opportunities are covered.
This post would be suitable for any trainee who has successfully completed ST5 or equivalent or is post-CCT. Previous experience in Maternal-Fetal Medicine would be advantageous but is not essential. Trainees must have MRCOG or equivalent. The appointee will be expected to register with the Subspecialty training programme at the RCOG. The appointee will have a named educational supervisor. Annual leave and study leave is commensurate with other post foundation doctors. The aim of this post is to equip the post-holder with the necessary clinical skills to become a recognised subspecialist in Maternal and Fetal Medicine.
The core programme includes 4 to 5 sessions per week on the Fetal Medicine unit for training in ultrasound and performing invasive procedures. A further session is allocated to the weekly Fetal Medicine case review meeting and for research seminars. Maternal medicine training consists of weekly, whole day, multidisciplinary Obstetric Medicine clinics, a weekly diabetic antenatal clinic (6 months), a cardiac antenatal clinic and other specialist antenatal clinics (neurology, haematology, hepatology, rheumatology and infectious diseases).
