Trainee Estimator

Trainee Estimator

Location: Kent
Salary: Competitive, depending on experience
Job Type: Full-time, Permanent

The Company

We are recruiting on behalf of a highly established specialist within the commercial construction sector, with a successful trading history spanning over 50 years.

The business has built an excellent reputation for delivering high-quality products and solutions across a wide range of commercial construction projects throughout the UK. With a strong existing customer base, an experienced team and continued growth, they are now looking to invest in a Trainee Estimator to join their established estimating department.

This represents an excellent opportunity for someone looking to build a long-term career within construction estimating, with training and support provided by an experienced team.

The Role

As a Trainee Estimator, you will work alongside an established team responsible for preparing accurate and comprehensive quotations for customer enquiries.

You will learn how to interpret architectural drawings, specifications and Bills of Quantities (BoQs), understand individual project requirements and produce quotations that accurately reflect the customer's needs.

The role will involve:

• Producing quotations from architectural drawings, specifications and BoQs
• Preparing new, revised and copy quotations across projects of varying values
• Learning how to interpret technical and commercial project requirements
• Ensuring quotations are accurate and delivered within agreed deadlines
• Liaising directly with customers to clarify project requirements
• Working closely with Sales, CAD, Customer Service and other internal departments
• Providing quotation follow-up and support to the Sales team
• Managing multiple enquiries and priorities simultaneously
• Delivering an excellent level of service to both customers and internal teams
• Supporting the wider estimating department as required

About You

This is a trainee opportunity, so we're not necessarily looking for someone who already has years of estimating experience.

Instead, we're looking for someone with the right attitude, attention to detail and willingness to learn.

You will ideally have:

• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
• Strong communication skills
• Good numerical and analytical ability
• The ability to understand technical information
• Confidence working in a fast-paced environment
• The ability to multitask and manage competing deadlines
• A methodical and organised approach to your work
• A resilient and determined personality
• A genuine interest in developing a career within estimating and the construction industry
• A flexible, team-focused approach and willingness to go the extra mile

Previous experience within construction, manufacturing, engineering, technical sales, CAD, estimating or a similar environment would be advantageous but is not essential.

The Opportunity

This is an excellent chance to join a successful business with more than five decades of industry experience and develop a specialist skill set within commercial construction.

You’ll receive support from an experienced estimating team while developing your knowledge of drawings, specifications, quotations and the wider commercial construction process.

For someone looking to establish a genuine career rather than simply find their next job, this offers excellent long-term development and progression potential.
