Food Safety Officer

Location: Essex
Contract: Until the end of March 2027
Rate: Up to £50 per hour
Hours: Part time / flexible

We’re currently recruiting for an experienced Food Safety Officer to join a Council in Essex on a part-time contract.

The role will focus on carrying out food safety inspections across Category C to E and unrated premises. The hours can be worked flexibly, making this a good opportunity for someone looking for part-time work or additional contract hours.

Key responsibilities:

• Carrying out food hygiene inspections of C to E and unrated premises
• Assessing compliance with food safety legislation
• Providing advice and guidance to food business operators
• Following up on any identified issues and taking appropriate action
• Completing inspection reports and maintaining accurate records

We’re looking for someone with previous local authority experience as a Food Safety Officer, with a good understanding of food safety legislation and the Food Law Code of Practice.

The contract will run until the end of March 2027 and the council is looking for someone who can start immediately.

The rate is up to £50 per hour for the right person.
