Clerk to the Governors

Working closely with Governors, the Headteacher and the Senior Leadership Team, you will play a key role in ensuring the smooth operation of the school’s governance arrangements and supporting strategic decision-making that helps shape the future of our school.

About the Role

The Clerk to Governors is a vital member of the governance team and will be responsible for:

• Preparing and distributing meeting agendas and supporting papers.
• Attending and minuting Governing Body meetings.
• Producing accurate, concise and professional minutes.
• Providing administrative support to Governors.
• Maintaining governance records and documentation.
• Communicating effectively with Governors and the Senior Leadership Team to ensure documentation is current and compliant.
• Advising on governance procedures where appropriate.

The Governing Body typically meets six times each year , with meetings held once per half term in the evening at the school . Meeting dates are set well in advance. Aside from these fixed meetings, preparation and follow-up work can be completed flexibly at times that suit you.

Additional ad hoc meetings or duties may arise and will be paid separately at the appropriate hourly rate.

About You

We are looking for someone who:

• Has experience of preparing agendas and taking accurate minutes.
• Possesses excellent listening, written and verbal communication skills.
• Has strong organisational and administrative abilities.
• Can work independently and manage their own workload effectively.
• Has a professional, confidential and diplomatic approach.
• Is competent in using IT systems and Microsoft Office applications.

Previous experience as a Clerk to Governors or within a governance, administration or education setting would be desirable, although not essential.
