Binsted Nursery, part of Tristram Plants and grower member of the Farplants Group, based near Chichester, West Sussex and produce over 3.3 million potted herbs, bulbs, alpines and perennials per year with a turnover approx. £4m+. is recruiting for an exciting new role.

Production Operations Manager

The Production Operations Manager will be part of the Senior Management Team working to meet the diverse production requirements of the business and help to ensure smooth running of the nursery. The Senior Team have an overview of daily running and look strategically at the business needs. Monitor KPI’s to ensure the financial performance. Take decisions on staffing, budgets and developing plans for future capital expenditure.

Daily management of the finished pot production and growing teams along with associated operations to pot, grow and maintain crops in a timely and efficient manner to meet production plans and customer timings. Working with the Operations Manager, overseeing and supporting Stock Control and Despatch functions in striving for operational efficiency and deliver greater than our budgeted sellout.

Key areas:

• Growing and Production: managing cultural activities to ensure plant growth and quality are maintained; managing production activities to according to plans and improving upon those plans
• Despatch and Stock Control : supporting key decision making around stock readiness; supporting Operations Manager identify despatch operational efficiency.
• Manage the Maintenance departmen t ensuring all preventative, statutory and reactive maintenance is done safely and effectively in a cost-effective manner.
• Software use : monitoring production plans using established decision support software
• Cost budgets : setting annually and reviewing throughout the year
• Health, safety and security : daily on the ground support
• Collaboration and meetings : where relevant and necessary collaborating with other departments, businesses and organisations; attending meetings which may involve travel
• Line Management and HR
• Undertaking weekend duties on a rota basis

Full time position, 39 hours per week plus weekends and Christmas duty on a rota.

• Monday to Thursday 08:00 – 16:45
• Friday 08:00 – 15:45

Candidates must have proven organisational skills and leadership. Previous experience in a management role and ability to work as part of a management team. Very good IT skills, working extensively with Microsoft Excel and PIVOT table. Technical and management training. Full UK driving licence and access to own vehicle. Excellent attention to detail and high standard of quality.
