Mental Health Support Worker
About the role:
We are recruiting a Mental Health Support Worker for a nurturing SEMH school on the outskirts of March, starting in September. This is a full-time position (6.5 hours per day), initially offered on a 12-week basis with the view to becoming permanent.
The school provides tailored support for children and young people across all age groups, focusing on developing academic skills, independence, and confidence through adapted teaching, structured routines, and a supportive learning environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the delivery of differentiated and accessible lessons by working alongside teaching staff, breaking down tasks and scaffolding learning.
- Reinforce key concepts to enable pupils with SEND to engage confidently with the curriculum.
- Use structured support strategies, including visual aids, clear instructions, modelling, and hands-on activities to promote participation and maintain focus.
- Encourage positive learning behaviours by providing calm, consistent support, helping pupils to self-regulate and re-engage with learning when required.
Pre-requisites:
- Experience supporting or delivering structured learning activities for children or young people (in schools, tutoring, care, clubs, or similar settings).
- Understanding of special educational needs and the ability to adapt support strategies effectively.
- Confidence using a range of teaching approaches, including explaining tasks clearly, modelling steps, and keeping pupils engaged.
- Relevant qualifications (e.g. Level 2 Teaching Assistant, Childcare, Youth Work) or equivalent experience.
