Assistant Manager | The Cafe

Shilstone House is a country estate in South Devon. Located in the courtyard, our Café offers a seasonal menu led by what’s available from the gardens and local growers.

The Role

We are seeking a reliable and energetic Café Assistant Manager to support the day-to-day running of our café. Working closely with the Café Manager, you will help lead the team, ensure excellent customer service, and maintain smooth operations.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist in overseeing daily Café operations and staff management
• Support and motivate team members to deliver exceptional service
• Handle customer inquiries and resolve complaints professionally
• Help with staff training, shift planning, and performance monitoring
• Maintain cleanliness, food safety, and hygiene standards
• Monitor stock levels
• Ensure consistent product quality and presentation
• Take responsibility for opening and closing procedures as needed

Skills & Experience:

• Previous experience in a supervisory or team leader role, preferably in a café or food service setting
• Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and lead by example
• Knowledge of food safety and hygiene standards
• Flexible availability, including weekends and holidays

Additional Information:

• Your own transport is essential as we are not on any public transport routes
• 30-40 hours per week – Wednesday – Sunday
• Up to £13-£14 per hour (dependant on age and experience) with tips
• 50% off in the Café and Restaurant for you and a guest

• Team members in certain roles will get the chance to visit our local suppliers, to learn more about the produce we use
