Role Overview:
We are looking for a resilient, patient and enthusiastic Behaviour Support Worker to join the school on a full-time, long-term basis.
You will support pupils both 1:1 and in small groups, helping them to manage their emotions, behaviour and engagement within the classroom. Building strong and trusting relationships will be a key part of the role, alongside providing consistent boundaries and positive behaviour support.
This could be an excellent opportunity for someone with previous experience in SEMH, SEN, youth work, residential care, support work or other roles supporting children and young people with additional needs and challenging behaviour.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide 1:1 and small group support to pupils with SEMH and behavioural needs.
- Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils and act as a consistent role model.
- Support pupils with emotional regulation, engagement and positive behaviour.
- Use appropriate behaviour management and de-escalation strategies.
- Support pupils to access learning and remain engaged within the classroom.
- Encourage the development of confidence, resilience, independence and social skills.
- Work closely with teaching staff and the wider pastoral team to provide consistent support.
- Maintain a calm, patient and professional approach when responding to challenging situations.
What We're Looking For:
- Experience supporting children or young people with SEMH, SEN and/or challenging behaviour is desirable.
- A calm, resilient and confident approach to behaviour support.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- An understanding of the importance of consistency, boundaries and positive reinforcement.
- A genuine passion for helping young people overcome barriers and succeed.
- Experience within education, youth work, residential care, support work or a similar setting would be advantageous.
- A Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification is desirable but not essential.
To be eligible, you must:
- Hold Right to Work in the UK.
- Hold an enhanced child barred list DBS certificate or be willing to process a new application.
- Provide two professional child-related references.
Why Work With Us?
- Competitive daily rate.
- Full-time, long-term opportunity within a specialist SEMH setting.
- Ongoing support throughout your placement.
- Opportunity to develop your experience within SEN and behaviour support.
If you're passionate about supporting young people with SEMH needs and have the resilience, patience and enthusiasm required to help pupils reach their potential, we'd love to hear from you.
