We are seeking a dedicated, compassionate, and flexible Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming special school in Chesterfield. This is a rewarding opportunity to support children with a range of additional needs and make a positive impact on their educational journey.
Responsibilities
Support pupils across a wide age range, from Year 1 through to Year 9.
Work with children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, and physical disabilities.
Provide support within whole-class settings, small groups, and on a 1:1 basis where required.
Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils to promote engagement, confidence, and emotional wellbeing.
Adapt your approach to meet the individual needs of each child, demonstrating flexibility throughout the school day.
Work collaboratively with teachers, teaching assistants, therapists, and other professionals to achieve the best possible outcomes for pupils.
Support pupils with their learning, social development, communication, and independence.
Help create a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment where every child can thrive.
Qualifications
Have experience working with children with SEND and SEMH needs.
Be confident in building strong, positive relationships with children from a range of backgrounds and abilities.
Be patient, resilient, and empathetic, with a genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs.
Be flexible and able to adapt to the changing needs of the school and pupils.
Have experience supporting children with physical needs or be willing to learn.
Be an effective team player who works well alongside colleagues and contributes positively to the wider school community.
Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Be committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
