As an HGV Recovery Driver, you’ll often work independently, but the moment you step out of your truck, you become a source of calm and confidence. With empathy and resilience, you’ll support members through stressful moments, using your technical expertise to recover vehicles safely and efficiently. Whether it’s transporting a vehicle to a garage or helping someone reach their destination, you’ll make a real difference in their day and their journey.

What will I be doing?

• Delivering exceptional service by safely recovering vehicles and reassuring customers during breakdowns, helping them get back on the road quickly.
• Working independently across varied locations and conditions, while remaining a valued part of a supportive team.
• Solving problems on the spot, using your technical skills and calm approach to handle a wide range of roadside situations.
• Staying solution‑focused and compliant with EU Regulations & WTD, representing The AA with professionalism and a drive to always “Push for Better.”

What do I need?

• A full Category C (HGV Class 2) driving licence is essential. If you already hold a Category CE (HGV Class 1) licence — great! If not, don’t worry — we’ll support you in gaining it.
• A valid Driver CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence) and a digital tachograph card.
• Confidence using and adapting to new technology — we’ll provide the tools; you bring the curiosity.
• Flexibility to work shift patterns, including evenings, weekends, and Bank Holidays because breakdowns don’t stick to a schedule.

As a valued member of The AA team, you’ll have access to a range of benefits including:

• 23 days annual leave (increases with service) + holiday buying scheme
• Worksave pension scheme with up to 7% employer contribution
• Free AA breakdown membership from Day 1 plus 50% discount for family and friends
• Discounts on AA products including car and home insurance
• Employee discount scheme that gives you access to a car salary sacrifice scheme plus great discounts on healthcare, shopping, holidays and more
• Company funded life assurance
• Diverse learning and development opportunities to support you to progress in your career
• Dedicated Employee Assistance Programme and a 24/7 remote GP service for you and your family

We’re proud to be an inclusive employer and welcome people from all backgrounds. At The AA, you’re encouraged to be yourself, thrive in your role, and feel like you truly belong.
