Environmental Health - Private Sector Housing Officer
This is not a role for the faint hearted – and that’s exactly why it’s one of the most rewarding places you can work in housing enforcement. If you’re looking for complex cases, tribunal experience, and the chance to work at the sharp end of private sector housing regulation, this is where you’ll find it. Our growing team is nationally engaged, focused on enforcement, and deeply committed to making real change for residents. If you want to build serious experience, sharpen your legal and enforcement knowledge, and handle cases that genuinely matter, this is the place to do it.
A degree in Environmental Health, or registration as a Registered Housing Health Practitioner or Environmental Health Practitioner is essential, as well as a sound working knowledge of HHSRS.
The Council operates a hybrid model combining working home and from the office, taking a flexible approach to strike the right balance for officers and service delivery.
You must have the right to work in the UK. Evidence for the right to work in the UK will be requested at the interview stage.
We’ve tried to make this website as accessible as possible. You can use the accessibility widget on the right hand side to make it more accessible to you and your needs.
Ealing Council is committed to creating good jobs and delivering on its connected communities’ agenda. We are committed to equality of opportunity, to being fair and inclusive.

Please note all applications will be determined on merit.
The post holders will be highly motivated, flexible individuals, with excellent customer service skills, able to communicate with people at different levels as appropriate. You will be working with and supporting other team members with complex cases.
For a detailed list of responsibilities and person criteria please see the role profile.
Benefits include flexible, hybrid working, 25 days annual leave increasing to 28 days after 5 years and 30 days after 10 years of continuous Local Government service.
This is a full‑time position, working 35 hours per week on a permanent contract.
For an informal discussion regarding this rewarding and interesting role please contact Charlotte Ward, Head of Private Sector Housing,
Closing date for applications: 27 September 2026.
