Location: Homeworking with some travel to Birmingham
Contract: Fixed-term for 3 years for a short-term piece of work
Fees paid: £500 per day (up to 14 days per annum)
Job Req: BOA15-2
The Gambling Commission established the Industry Forum in 2024 to sit alongside existing stakeholder engagement and provide insight and evidence from the industry we regulate. We are appointing a Chair to the Industry Forum to lead forum meetings and engage with Commission staff and Commissioners, drawing insight from forum members in a way that helps to develop the Commission’s regulatory work. The role will be for a 3-year term, paid at a daily rate of £500.
In this role, we’re looking for someone with a background in and understanding of the gambling industry, and who can meet the requirements of our Managing Conflicts of Interest policy.
You will have experience managing groups of people to facilitate high-quality engagement from a range of different viewpoints.
You will be able to build effective working relationships and communicate clearly and with impact to a range of audiences, often including senior stakeholders.
With the support of the Commission, you will be the public-facing representative of the forum when interacting with trade press, industry stakeholders and other public forums.
You will support the Forum and Commission to identify, understand and resolve issues that impact the Commission, industry and consumers. You will have a keen interest in identifying practical solutions that move issues forward.
You may be asked to take part in a small amount of UK-based travel as part of your role to attend meetings or events. These will be funded through appropriate travel and subsistence.
We value diversity in our workplace and are committed to a culture where each individual is engaged and feels that their contribution is valued and respected. We welcome all applications from candidates who meet the minimum requirements for the role.
Please ensure you have the right to work in the UK before applying, as we are unable to provide visa sponsorship.
Incomplete applications will be discounted from shortlisting. Please ensure your application is fully completed and submitted before logging out of your account.
You will be expected to demonstrate high standards of personal conduct and adhere to the Commission's Code of Conduct. Applicants must also confirm that they understand and can apply the standards of probity required by public appointees outlined in the Seven Principles of Public Life.
The Industry Forum is provided with secretariat support by the Gambling Commission. Members of the committee should not receive funding or have financial interests in the gambling industry.
The time commitment for the Forum Chair is expected to be up to two days per month on average. This includes chairing meetings approximately every six to eight weeks. In between meetings, the Forum will contribute advice on specific projects as required.
Meetings are currently held in-person and remotely. Where face-to-face meetings are held, these will usually take place in Birmingham. We will discuss with candidates what flexibility will be needed to enable participation.
The Gambling Commission is the regulatory authority responsible for overseeing and regulating gambling activities in the United Kingdom. Our primary role is to ensure that gambling is conducted fairly, openly, and free from crime, while also protecting vulnerable individuals from harm.
We regulate various forms of gambling, including casinos, bingo, sports betting, and lotteries, and issue licences to operators. We are committed to ensuring a safe and responsible gambling environment, promoting transparency, and enforcing compliance with legal standards to maintain public trust in the industry.
We’re proud to have notable industry recognition, including the Regulatory Excellence Award from the International Association of Gaming Regulators (IAGR). This prestigious award recognised the Commission's international leadership in enhancing consumer protection through industry collaboration.
If you want to contribute to work that makes a meaningful difference and join an organisation that is a force for good, we would be delighted to receive your application.
