  • Permanent role with a long-established specialist manufacturer

About the company

Flexi Narrow Aisle designs and builds specialist narrow-aisle forklift trucks, used by warehouses that need to make the most of tight storage space. The business has grown steadily and expanded its manufacturing capacity to keep up with demand. This role sits in the used vehicle department, preparing and reconditioning trucks before they go back out to customers.

The role

As Mechanical Fitter Team Leader, you'll take charge of the day-to-day running of the used vehicle workshop while staying hands-on with the tools yourself. You'll report into the department manager and be accountable for the quality and turnaround of every truck that leaves the workshop. Success here looks like a team that's organised and developing, and used trucks that go out right first time.

Key responsibilities

You'll:

  • Lead a small team of mechanical fitters, planning daily workload and priorities
  • With in house training be able to assist in the repair of mechanical, hydraulic and electrical faults found on used forklift trucks
  • Recondition and prepare used trucks to a consistent standard before resale
  • Quality-check every truck before it's signed off and released
  • Mentor fitters and share technical knowledge across the team
  • Ensure all build paperwork is completed throughout the build processes.
  • Maintain workshop health and safety standards day to day

Essential

  • Proven experience as a mechanical fitter, ideally on forklift trucks or similar mobile plant
  • Strong hydraulic and mechanical fault-diagnosis skills
  • Experience leading, supervising or mentoring a small technical team
  • A recognised engineering qualification (e.g. NVQ or City and Guilds), or equivalent hands-on experience

Useful, not essential

  • Experience specifically with forklift or materials handling equipment
  • A forklift licence
  • Experience in a used vehicle or refurbishment environment
  • Familiarity with workshop service record systems

Benefits & culture

Development: ongoing technical training and support as you grow into the leadership side of the role

Working arrangements

Full-time, based on-site at the Tipton workshop throughout, Monday to Friday.
