About the Role

We are delighted to be recruiting for an Accounts Senior / Team Leader to join a progressive and forward-thinking accountancy practice.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Accounts Senior who is ready to take the next step in their career and assume responsibility not only for their own portfolio of clients, but also for supporting and overseeing the work of two other members of the team.

The successful candidate will be an organised, diligent and commercially aware accountant who takes pride in delivering high-quality work, meeting deadlines and providing an excellent level of service to clients.

A key part of the role will be ensuring that work is planned, prioritised and completed withinagreed client deadlines, whilst managing your own portfolio effectively and overseeing the workflow and output of the wider POD.

Key Responsibilities

  • Managing a portfolio of clients and acting as a key point of contact for day-to-day accounting matters.
  • Preparing statutory accounts for a range of clients.
  • Preparation and submission of VAT returns.
  • Preparation of Corporation Tax returns and associated computations.
  • Reviewing and managing the work completed by two members of the team.

  • Monitoring workflow across the team and identifying potential deadline issues at an early stage.
  • Providing guidance, support and constructive feedback to junior members of the team.
  • Reviewing work to ensure it meets the required standards of accuracy and quality.
  • Liaising directly with clients and developing strong, professional working relationships.
  • Dealing with client queries and providing practical accounting support and advice where appropriate.
  • Ensuring compliance with relevant accounting, taxation and regulatory requirements.
  • Supporting the wider practice with other duties typically expected of an experienced Accounts Senior.
  • Contributing ideas and improvements to processes and ways of working within the team.

About You

We are looking for someone who is highly organised, diligent and reliable, with the ability to manage competing priorities and ensure that nothing is allowed to slip through the net.

You will need to be confident managing your own client portfolio and comfortable taking responsibility for ensuring work is delivered accurately and on time.

Importantly, you will also have the ability to manage and coordinate the work of others. This isn't simply a supervisory title — we are looking for someone who can take ownership of the teams workload, allocate and monitor work effectively, support colleagues and make sure client deadlines are consistently achieved.

  • A strong background as an Accounts Senior or similar.
  • ACA or ACCA qualification (ideally fully qualified).
  • Solid experience preparing statutory accounts and VAT returns.
  • Experience with Corporation Tax compliance.
  • Excellent organisational and time-management skills.
  • A meticulous approach and strong attention to detail.
  • The confidence to review and manage other people's work.
  • Excellent communication and client relationship skills.
  • The ability to work independently whilst also being a supportive team player.
  • A proactive approach to identifying and resolving potential issues before they become problems.
