Accounts Payable Clerk

My client is looking for a motivated, organised and enthusiastic Accounts Payable Clerk to join their friendly finance team.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to begin or develop their career in finance, gaining hands-on experience in a busy finance department while learning from an experienced Finance Manager.

Working within an established business in the waste management and recycling sector, you’ll play an important role in supporting the day-to-day running of the purchase ledger, helping to ensure supplier invoices are processed accurately, payments are managed efficiently and supplier accounts remain up to date.

Previous accounts payable or purchase ledger experience would be beneficial, but it’s not essential. My client is equally interested in someone with a positive attitude, strong attention to detail and a genuine willingness to learn.

Study support may also be available for the right candidate looking to pursue a relevant finance qualification, such as AAT.

The Role

As an Accounts Payable Clerk, your responsibilities will include:

• Processing supplier invoices and credit notes accurately and efficiently.
• Checking invoices for accuracy, authorisation and correct nominal ledger coding.
• Setting up new supplier accounts and maintaining accurate records.
• Assisting with supplier statement reconciliations and investigating discrepancies.
• Supporting supplier payment runs and monitoring invoice due dates.
• Responding to supplier queries in a professional and timely manner.
• Allocating payments and investigating outstanding items.
• Developing your understanding of VAT, accounting principles and finance systems.
• Supporting the wider finance team with day-to-day administrative tasks as required.

The Candidate:

• Good numeracy and organisational skills.
• Clear communication skills and a professional telephone and email manner.
• The ability to manage your workload, prioritise tasks and meet deadlines.
• Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, or a willingness to improve your skills.
• The ability to work well independently and as part of a team.
• Any previous experience in accounts payable, purchase ledger, finance administration or general office administration would be advantageous.

An interest in pursuing an AAT qualification or another relevant finance qualification would also be beneficial
