Joiner

The role of a cabinet maker is to work in the Joinery Workshop producing
furniture and joinery items as specified. The items required include bespoke furniture.

Skills

• Knowledge of joinery production and processes
• Understand designs, technical drawings and written instructions
• Be competent in the use of woodworking machinery, such as panel saws, planers
• and spindle moulders, together with relevant power tools such as routers.
• Safely set up, operate and maintain workshop machinery such as panel saws,
• planners, spindle moulders, morticers and tenoners.
• Have good attention to detail and be able to work accurately
• Ability to work well with others and on your own
• Ability to work to tight deadlines
• Patience and the ability to remain calm in stressful situations
• Ability to use, repair and maintain machines and tools
• Flexibility when following instructions on priority of work flow

Role and Responsibilities

• Know the uses of different types of wood and other materials, and use the correct ones
• Use appropriate fixtures and fittings
• Use specifications to manufacture bespoke items
• Produce items to agreed timing
• Use a range of equipment expertly and safely
• Communicate any issue with production to the Joinery Workshop Manager
• Responsible for safety and ‘housekeeping’ of own work area and overall workshop
