Freelance Site Manager – New Build Social Housing

I’m currently working with a leading Tier One main contractor who is looking to appoint an experienced Freelance Site Manager to support the delivery of a new-build social housing development.

This is an excellent opportunity for a proven Site Manager with a strong background in residential construction, particularly within the social housing sector, who can hit the ground running and make an immediate impact on site.

The client is looking for someone who can take ownership of day-to-day site operations from the outset, drive programme performance and ensure works are delivered safely, efficiently and to the highest quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

Take full responsibility for the day-to-day management of site operations.

Hit the ground running, quickly familiarising yourself with the project, programme and current site activities.

Coordinate and manage subcontractors, ensuring works are delivered in line with the construction programme.

Drive progress on site, identifying potential delays and implementing solutions to keep the project on track.

Maintain high standards of health and safety, quality control and site compliance.

Carry out regular inspections, quality checks and site safety audits.

Ensure RAMS, permits, site records and relevant documentation are maintained.

Work closely with the Project Manager and wider delivery team to achieve key milestones.

Oversee snagging, finishing works and handover requirements as the development progresses.

About You

The ideal candidate will have:

Proven experience as a Site Manager on new-build social housing developments.

Previous experience working for a Tier One or established main contractor.

The ability to step onto an active construction site and take control from day one.

Strong knowledge of residential construction methods, sequencing and build programmes.

Experience managing multiple subcontractors and driving site productivity.

A proactive, hands-on approach with excellent leadership and problem-solving skills.

A strong commitment to health and safety, quality and programme delivery.

Essential qualifications: SMSTS, relevant CSCS card and First Aid at Work
