Introduction

Acorn by Synergie is recruiting an enthusiastic and experienced Chef Manager to lead a busy school kitchen team in Exeter, providing high-quality, fresh and nutritious meals for pupils and staff.

This is an excellent opportunity for a passionate catering professional who enjoys leading a team, maintaining high standards of food safety and delivering excellent customer service.

As a School Chef Manager, you will play a key role in creating a positive lunchtime experience for students, ensuring meals are prepared and served in a safe, welcoming environment.

You will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the school kitchen, including supervising staff, planning meals, managing stock and budgets, and maintaining compliance with food safety and health and safety regulations.

Key Duties

Plan, prepare and deliver healthy, nutritious meals to pupils and staff.

Lead, train and motivate the catering team to achieve high standards.

Manage food ordering, stock control and budget performance.

Ensure compliance with food safety, allergen and health and safety legislation.

Monitor food quality, presentation and customer satisfaction.

Maintain accurate records and complete all required documentation.

Minimise food waste.

Oversee the day-to-day operation of the school kitchen, ensuring a safe, efficient and high-quality catering service.

Requirements

Essential:

Previous experience working in a busy catering or kitchen environment.

Previous supervisory or management experience.

Strong knowledge of food hygiene and food safety procedures.

Excellent organisational and communication skills.

Experience in menu planning, stock control and budget management.

Positive, flexible and customer-focused approach.

Passion for delivering high-quality food and excellent service.

Food Safety Level 2 qualification.

Desirable:

Previous experience working within a school catering environment.

Food Safety Level 3 qualification.

Relevant Catering or Professional Cookery qualification.

Allergen Awareness training.
