Quality Inspector – Mechanical / Electrical Fit Out

Location: Bradford, West Yorkshire
Job Type: Full-time, Permanent

About Hartwell

Hartwell Manufacturing is a family-run engineering business with nearly 50 years of experience delivering high-quality acoustic enclosures and heavy steel fabrication projects. From our Ossett headquarters, we support clients in the power, data centre and industrial sectors with engineered solutions built on precision, collaboration and reliability. The culture is hands-on, team-focused and proud of the work we produce.

As part of our continued growth, we are looking to recruit an experienced Quality Inspector to support mechanical and electrical fit-out operations at our Bradford facility.

The Role

We are looking for a practical, detail-focused Quality Inspector who takes genuine pride in ensuring that finished products meet the highest standards.

The successful candidate will be responsible for inspecting mechanical and electrical installations, identifying defects and ensuring that all work meets the required drawings, specifications and customer expectations.

This is a hands-on position requiring someone who is comfortable working closely with production teams, identifying potential issues and ensuring that quality is maintained throughout the manufacturing and assembly process.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out quality inspections of mechanical and electrical installations and assemblies.
  • Inspect completed work against engineering drawings, specifications and quality standards.
  • Ensure mechanical components and electrical installations meet customer and project requirements.
  • Identify, document and report defects, non-conformances and workmanship issues.
  • Work closely with production teams to resolve quality concerns.
  • Conduct in-process and final inspections before products are released.
  • Maintain accurate inspection records and quality documentation.
  • Support investigations into quality issues and assist with corrective actions.
  • Ensure compliance with internal quality procedures and relevant industry standards.
  • Liaise with Engineering, Production and Project Management teams to resolve technical issues.
  • Support continuous improvement activities aimed at reducing defects and improving workmanship.
  • Promote a strong quality culture across the manufacturing facility.

Experience & Skills Required

  • Previous experience in a Quality Inspector or Quality Assurance role within a manufacturing, engineering or assembly environment.
  • Good understanding of mechanical and electrical installations, assemblies and associated quality requirements.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
  • Experience identifying defects, recording non-conformances and supporting corrective actions.
  • Strong attention to detail, a practical approach to problem-solving and the confidence to challenge poor workmanship.

The Ideal Candidate

We are particularly interested in someone who understands that quality is about more than paperwork, procedures and inspection reports.

You will have a genuine interest in engineering and manufacturing, take pride in the finished product and be comfortable working directly with production teams to resolve issues.

You should be confident, approachable and capable of maintaining high standards without creating unnecessary barriers to production.

What We Offer

  • Permanent position within an established, growing engineering business.
  • Opportunity to work on technically interesting manufacturing projects.
  • Supportive, hands-on working environment.
  • Opportunity to contribute directly to improvements in product quality and manufacturing standards
