Location: Burnley, Lancashire

Position: Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA)

Focus: 1:1 & Small Group Interventions

Contract Type: Full-Time / Long-Term Supply options available

Salary/Pay Rate: £117.25 - £151.89

About the Role

Are you an experienced, resilient, and compassionate Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) looking for a rewarding role where you can truly transform young lives?

We are working in partnership with a dynamic Alternative Provision (AP) setting in Burnley that caters to students who have disengaged from mainstream education or require specialised social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) support.

We are seeking a dedicated HLTA to lead targeted 1:1 and small group interventions, helping students overcome barriers to learning, re-engage with education, and build the confidence they need to succeed.

Key Responsibilities

Deliver Targeted Interventions: Plan, prepare, and run engaging 1:1 and small group learning activities focused on core subjects (literacy/numeracy) and personal development.

Support SEMH & Behavior: Implement effective behaviour management strategies, promoting a calm, structured, and safe learning environment.

Track & Report Progress: Monitor student engagement, assess academic and emotional progress, and document outcomes using Personalised Intervention Plans (PIPs).

Collaborate with Staff: Work closely with teachers, SENCOs, and external agencies to tailor support strategies to individual student needs.

Build Resilience: Act as a positive role model, fostering trust and rapport with vulnerable young people to improve their self-esteem and independence.

Candidate Requirements

Qualifications: Hold HLTA status (or a relevant Level 4+ childcare/education qualification).

Experience: Proven experience working as a Teaching Assistant or HLTA, ideally within an Alternative Provision, SEND, or SEMH setting.

Skills: Strong working knowledge of literacy/numeracy interventions and excellent behaviour management capabilities.

Personal Attributes: High levels of resilience, empathy, patience, and a flexible "can-do" attitude.

Compliance: Must hold a current Enhanced Child Workforce DBS (or be willing to apply for one).
