Merkinch
In your new role as a Commercial Sales Negotiator, you will be joining a long-established and highly respected organisation based in Inverness.
Global Highland is delighted to be recruiting on behalf of our client for a commercially minded and relationship-focused Commercial Sales Negotiator to join an established and successful sales team in Inverness.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who combines a natural flair for negotiation with a proactive approach to business development and a genuine commitment to customer service.
Working within a well-established Scottish fuel distribution business, you’ll help drive sales growth across Scotland, develop valuable customer relationships and identify new commercial opportunities. You’ll have the opportunity to take ownership of customer conversations, negotiate competitive solutions and contribute directly to the success of the wider business.
If you enjoy the challenge of winning new business, building long-term partnerships and finding the right solutions for customers, this could be the next step in your commercial career.
The opportunity
As Commercial Sales Negotiator, you’ll play a key role in developing and growing fuel sales across Scotland. Reporting to the Sales Manager, you’ll work with both existing customers and new prospects, identifying opportunities, understanding commercial requirements and negotiating solutions that deliver value for customers while supporting business profitability.
This is a varied, hands-on role that combines sales development, customer relationship management, commercial negotiation and sales administration. You’ll be part of a collaborative team where your initiative, commercial awareness and ability to build trust will make a real difference.
What you’ll be doing
Driving sales and business development: Proactively identify new opportunities, engage potential customers and grow sales across Scotland.
Building lasting customer relationships: Develop strong partnerships with existing and prospective customers, understanding their needs and identifying opportunities to grow accounts.
Negotiating commercial agreements: Discuss pricing, prepare competitive proposals and negotiate deals that balance customer expectations with sales and margin objectives.
Delivering tailored solutions: Understand customer requirements and recommend appropriate fuel products and services to meet their operational and commercial needs.
Managing customer expectations: Provide responsive, professional support, resolve queries effectively and ensure customers receive a consistently high standard of service.
Preparing quotations and processing orders: Support the full sales process with accurate quotations, order processing and timely administrative follow-up.
Maintaining market awareness: Keep up to date with fuel market developments, competitor activity and relevant industry or regulatory changes.
Supporting team success: Work closely with colleagues and the Sales Manager to achieve sales objectives, maintain strong customer relationships and contribute to continued business growth.
What we’re looking for
We’re keen to hear from someone who is commercially aware, confident in their communication and motivated by the opportunity to turn relationships into business results.
You’ll ideally have:
Previous experience in a sales, commercial or business development role, ideally within the fuel, energy or a related industry.
Strong negotiation skills and the confidence to discuss pricing, manage expectations and agree mutually beneficial outcomes.
Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to engage professionally with customers at all levels.
A proactive, opportunity-focused mindset and the confidence to develop new business as well as nurture existing accounts.
Good commercial awareness, including an understanding of pricing, profitability and the importance of maintaining margins.
Strong organisational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage quotations, orders and customer records accurately.
The ability to work independently, prioritise a varied workload and take ownership of customer opportunities.
A collaborative approach and a genuine commitment to delivering excellent customer service.
Knowledge of the fuel market and an understanding of the challenges faced by business customers would be advantageous. However, we’d also welcome applications from commercially driven sales professionals with transferable experience who are keen to develop their industry knowledge.
Above all, we’re looking for someone who can combine commercial confidence with a customer-first approach — someone who knows how to negotiate effectively, spot opportunities and build relationships that stand the test of time.
Why consider this opportunity?
Make a commercial impact: Play a direct role in growing sales and developing new business opportunities across Scotland.
Build meaningful relationships: Work with a diverse customer base and develop long-term commercial partnerships.
Enjoy a varied role: Combine business development, negotiation, account management and sales support.
Develop your expertise: Strengthen your commercial, negotiation and industry knowledge within an established business.
Work collaboratively: Join a supportive sales team where communication, initiative and shared success matter.
Build your career: Develop your experience and contribute to the ongoing success of a recognised Scottish fuel distribution business.
