Graduate Teaching Assistant

Graduate Teaching Assistant (Temporary / Flexible) - North London

What is a Graduate Teaching Assistant?

A Graduate Teaching Assistant supports the classroom teacher in delivering lessons and helping pupils get the most out of their learning. It's a popular role for recent graduates who are considering a future in teaching, educational psychology, or other careers working with children, and want first-hand classroom experience before committing to further study or a teaching qualification. Graduate TAs work closely with the class teacher, supporting small groups or individual pupils and helping reinforce what's being taught.

Do you need a teaching qualification?

• No! A Graduate Teaching Assistant role does not require QTS, a PGCE, or any formal teaching qualification. You'll simply need to hold a degree (in any subject) along with strong communication and organisational skills. This makes it an ideal stepping stone for graduates who are exploring teaching as a career but aren't yet ready to commit to a teacher training programme.

Why work as a Graduate Teaching Assistant?

Gain Experience in Education

• Teaching Experience: Working as a Graduate TA gives you genuine, day-to-day experience in a classroom setting, helping you decide whether teaching is the right path for you before applying for a PGCE or School Direct place.
• Classroom Management Skills: You'll develop practical classroom management and behaviour support skills, both of which are looked upon favourably by teacher training providers and schools alike.

Opportunity for Career Progression

• With experience, Graduate Teaching Assistants often go on to complete teacher training (PGCE, School Direct, or Teach First), or progress into SEND, pastoral, cover supervisor or HLTA (Higher Level Teaching Assistant) roles within schools.

Experience, Training and Qualifications required for the Graduate Teaching Assistant position:

• A degree in any subject is essential; a degree in Education, Psychology, or a related field is an advantage but not required.
