Seafreight Import Customer Service Operator

Birmingham

£35,000 per annum + Benefits

Hybrid Working (after Training)

We are recruiting for an experienced and enthusiastic Seafreight Import Customer Service Operator to join a well-established international Freight and Logistics organisation based in Birmingham. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with freight forwarding experience who particularly enjoys customer interaction and problems solving.

Our client is looking for someone who understands that great freight forwarding isn't simply about moving a shipment — it's about taking ownership, keeping customers informed, anticipating problems and making sure things happen when they should.

You will act as a key point of contact for customers, working closely with operational teams, overseas partners, carriers and suppliers to consistently deliver a high standard of service.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Taking ownership of import shipments from booking through to final delivery
• Providing proactive shipment updates and maintaining regular communication with customers
• Monitoring shipments and identifying potential delays or issues before they impact the customer
• Investigating problems and working with operational teams and suppliers to find effective solutions
• Handling customer enquiries, requests and complaints professionally and efficiently
• Ensuring customer requirements, rates and agreed service levels are accurately recorded
• Liaising with overseas agents, carriers, hauliers and other logistics partners
• Working closely with operations and sales to ensure new customers are onboarded smoothly
• Monitoring service performance and identifying opportunities to improve the customer experience
• Handling claims and service issues through to resolution
• Maintaining accurate records and ensuring internal systems are kept fully updated
• Building strong, long-term relationships with customers
• Ensuring all work is completed in line with company procedures, compliance requirements and agreed service levels

We are looking for someone with previous experience in Freight Forwarding, Seafreight Imports, shipping or international logistics. Who combines strong operational knowledge with excellent customer service skills and takes ownership. Is comfortable managing multiple shipments and priorities, communicating with customers and suppliers, and finding solutions when things don't go according to plan. Have a proactive approach, excellent attention to detail and confidence in dealing with internal & external customers and suppliers
