Samuel Frank is recruiting for an experienced Electrical Engineering Manager to join a globally recognised manufacturing business at its major industrial site in the Deeside / Chester area.
The successful Electrical Engineering Manager will lead an electrical engineering function of approximately 40 Engineers including Supervisors, Technicians and Electricians. This senior leadership position calls for an established people manager with a strong electrical background who can develop teams, influence operational priorities and improve plant reliability. The emphasis is on leadership and delivery rather than being the technical expert in every situation.
Key responsibilities of the Electrical Engineering Manager include:

  • Lead, coach and develop a 40-strong engineering team, setting priorities, managing performance and deploying resources effectively.
  • Promote a strong safety culture, ensuring compliance with statutory and company standards.
  • Drive plant reliability, equipment availability and maintenance performance through effective asset management and continuous improvement.
  • Embed structured Root Cause Analysis (RCA) using methods such as 5 Why, Fishbone and Fault Tree Analysis; follow through on corrective actions and reliability reviews.
  • Work with manufacturing, mechanical engineering, projects and technical stakeholders to improve operational performance and reduce downtime.
  • Support major maintenance shutdowns, capital investment, plant upgrades and commissioning programmes.
  • Manage departmental engineering budgets and ensure value from maintenance expenditure.
  • Develop future capability through mentoring, succession planning, apprenticeship programmes and training.
  • Encourage practical use of AI tools to improve engineering productivity, knowledge sharing and problem-solving.

The successful Electrical Engineering Manager will ideally have:

  • A strong electrical engineering background gained in manufacturing, heavy industry, industrial or process engineering.
  • Proven experience leading and developing engineering, maintenance or reliability teams, ideally through supervisors or other direct reports.
  • An ability to influence stakeholders, balance immediate operational needs with longer-term engineering priorities and manage budgets.
  • A sound understanding of plant maintenance, safety and reliability, with strong organisational and decision-making skills.
  • A degree or equivalent electrical qualification, or IEng / CEng registration, would be advantageous but is not essential.

This Electrical Engineering Manager position could also suit an established Maintenance Manager, Reliability Manager, Plant Engineering Manager, Operations Manager or Senior Engineering Leader who has progressed through an electrical engineering background.
Salary and benefits:

  • Basic salary £60–63k.
  • Quarterly performance-related bonus.
  • 10% employer pension contribution (6% employee contribution).
  • 35 days’ holiday per annum.
  • Private medical cover and annual pay review.
  • Ongoing training, professional development and employee discount schemes.

Location: Deeside / Chester, North West. The site is commutable from Deeside, Chester, Wrexham, Ellesmere Port, Broughton, Liverpool, Northwich, Runcorn, Widnes and Warrington.
