UK Structural & Civil Engineering Salaries 2026: Regional Guide
June 7, 2026 · 2 min read
Engineering pay moved again in 2026, and the regional spread is wider than most candidates realise. This overview explains what actually moves a number within a range — and points you at the per-discipline guides, which carry the current figures.
The 2026 engineering salary guides
- Structural & civil engineer salaries — by region, plus the chartership premium
- M&E (building services) design engineer salaries — by region, plus the low-carbon and data-centre premium
- Controls, automation & PLC engineer salaries — by region, plus multi-vendor and functional-safety premiums
- Process engineer salaries — by region, plus the pharma, hydrogen and CCUS premium
What moves a number to the top of the range
Chartership (or a clear path to it), sector-specific certifications, and demonstrable delivery on named projects are the three biggest levers. Contract experience inside regulated environments also commands a premium.
Region matters, but less than the headline gap suggests: London and the South East pay the highest base, and give most of it back in cost of living. Sector is often the bigger lever — high-rise, nuclear, major infrastructure, pharma and energy consistently pay above general consultancy for the same years of experience.
Negotiate from data, not hope. If you know the range, you know your floor.
