Garden Centre Horticultural Manager
£38,000–£44,000 + Bonus & Benefits
Brighton outskirts
Imagine a crisp November morning at a thriving garden centre. Winter colour is brightening the plant area, beautiful bulbs are promising a spectacular spring, and bare-root trees, shrubs and hedging are arriving as gardeners look ahead to the new year. Christmas is approaching, the garden centre is full of seasonal activity, and there's a real opportunity to inspire customers with expert advice, fresh ideas and quality plants.
Beyond the festive season, spring is already on the horizon. For someone who loves horticulture, understands seasonal retail and enjoys bringing a team together, there's plenty to get excited about.
The Person
We're looking for a passionate and knowledgeable Horticultural Manager who thrives in a busy garden centre environment.
You love plants and enjoy sharing your knowledge with customers and colleagues alike. You're equally comfortable discussing the best plants for a winter border, helping customers plan ahead for spring or motivating your team to deliver exceptional standards.
You're a natural people leader who understands that a successful plant department comes from combining horticultural expertise, great customer service and strong commercial instincts.
We're looking for someone who is:

  • Passionate about horticulture, with good plant knowledge.
  • An experienced and confident team leader.
  • Commercially aware, with good retail instincts.
  • Customer-focused and committed to outstanding standards.
  • Organised, proactive and comfortable managing seasonal priorities.
  • Keen to build a long-term career within a successful business.

The Role
This is a hands-on leadership opportunity where you'll take ownership of a thriving plant department. With the support of an experienced business behind you, you'll have the opportunity to shape the plant offer, develop your team and drive the department forward throughout the gardening calendar.
Your responsibilities will include:

  • Selecting and merchandising quality plants from trusted growers.
  • Creating inspiring seasonal displays, from winter interest through to spring planting.
  • Leading, coaching and developing a small, enthusiastic team.
  • Maintaining exceptional standards of plant health, care and presentation.
  • Delivering knowledgeable, engaging and inspiring customer service.
  • Driving commercial performance through effective seasonal planning, buying and stock management.
  • Making sure the department is ready for every key trading season, from Christmas through to the spring gardening rush.

Weekend working is part of the role, but you'll enjoy every other weekend off, giving you time to enjoy your own garden and interests.
The Company
You'll be joining a well-established, financially secure and growing UK garden centre business with a strong reputation for quality, horticultural expertise and customer service. The business continues to invest in its people and future, offering a supportive environment, genuine opportunities for career progression and the chance to build a long-term career. This is a chance to combine your horticultural knowledge, leadership ability and commercial experience in a role where you can genuinely make a difference. If you're passionate about plants, enjoy leading people and want the opportunity to shape and develop a successful plant department, we'd love to hear from you
